A large scale effort to fight blight is coming to Calhoun County.

The Calhoun County Land Bank Authority says that in the coming weeks, they will be working with the County, Bedford Charter Township, Emmett Charter Township, and the Cities of Battle Creek and Albion to demolish 122 blighted houses. Chair of the Land Bank’s Board of Directors and County Treasurer Brian Wensauer says in a release that “demolishing a house isn’t always the goal”, but in these cases they believe it is the best course of action.

Funding for these demolitions will be coming from a grant the Land Bank got last year, through the Hardest Hit Blight Program.
