Red Wings

The Red Wings were shut out 3-0 by the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.  Henrik Lundqvist made 30 saves for the New York Rangers for his 300th career win.  Detroit has lost three of its last four. The Wings are at the Blue Jackets tomorrow.

William Clay Ford Dies

The last surviving grandson of Henry Ford is dead. Detroit Lions owner and chairman William Clay Ford died Sunday at the age of 88 due to pneumonia. Ford had been the sole owner of the Lions since buying the team in 1963 for 4.5-million-dollars.  Under his ownership, the team built two stadiums, hosted the 2006 Super Bowl and constructed a 36-million-dollar training center in Allen Park.  There will be a private service, and contributions can be sent to the Henry Ford Museum.

College Basketball

MSU wraps up the regular season with a 69-67 loss to Ohio State in Columbus. The Spartans battled the whole game, and had a chance to pull it out. Adreian Payne scored 23 points with eight rebounds for the Spartans, who close the regular season at 23-and-8 and 12-and-6 in the conference.  Gary Harris turned in 12 points and five boards in the loss.  The Spartans face Iowa or Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament on Friday. The Michigan Wolverines face Indiana or Illinois in the Big Ten Tournament on Friday as the top-seed.

Women’s Big Ten

Nebraska wins the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament with a win over Iowa. The Huskers beat MSU on Saturday.

Pistons

The Pistons lost to the Boston Celtics, 118-111. Josh Smith turned in 28 points and 11 rebounds while Greg Monroe scored 22 points with 14 boards for Detroit.  Andre Drummond recorded 18 points and 22 rebounds.  The Pistons host the Kings tomorrow.

Athens plays Lansing Christian in State Quarterfinals at Harper Creek on Tuesday.

Tigers

Alex Avila hit a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning as the Detroit Tigers topped the Miami Marlins 3-1 yesterday in Jupiter, Florida. Tyler Collins tied the game a frame earlier with a solo homer for Detroit. Ian Krol picked up the win in relief. The Tigers take on the Cardinals today.

NASCAR

Michigan native Brad Keselowski outran Dale Earnhardt Junior on the final lap to win the Kobalt 400 from Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Junior was in the lead but ran out of fuel to give Keselowski the checkered flag one day after winning the Nationwide race on the same track.

PGA

Patrick Reed picked up his third career PGA Tour win in the WGC-Cadillac Championship from Doral. Last year's winner, Tiger Woods, was six-over on the day and finished tied for 25th with a plus-five.

Swimming

Lakeview divers Jake Budd and Austin Nemire will go tot the Division 2 state finals starting today at EMU.  Lakeview junior John Vann will defend state title in the 100-yard butterfly.   Marshall’s Henry Swett and Kyle Weck advance to the Division 3 state at Holland.
