A four year old boy is going to be ok, after being run over on a bike on Goguac Street on Friday afternoon.  The woman who hit the boy was driving illegally.

Battle Creek Police Sgt. Todd Elliot says it happened about 2:20, pm near Meachem Avenue.

The boy was riding on the sidewalk, with his grandfather walking behind, when a woman backing out of a driveway in a Pontiac Grand Prix ran over the boy, dragging him a few feet into the road.

Sgt. Elliot says that by the time officers and medical personnel arrived, bystanders had pulled the boy to safety.  He says quick response from bystanders was critical in getting the driver of the car to stop and getting the boy out from under the car, preventing more serious injuries.

He says the investigation shows that due to the sharp incline on the driveway approach, the boy only sustained minor injuries for being trapped under a car.  He had an injury to his ankle and road rash on his body and head.

Sgt. Elliot says the woman driving the car was cooperative with officers and was visibly shaken by the incident.  She was cited for driving on a suspended license, no proof of insurance and failure to yield when backing out of a driveway.

The boy's grandfather was walking behind him when he was struck and was able to be by his side.  His mother arrived a short time later.  He was taken to an area hospital for further treatment.  His injuries were non-life threatening and he was smiling, laughing and in good spirits.

Police caution that with the warm weather upon us, more kids are out running around, on bikes, skateboards, scooters and skates.  Please remember to be extra vigilant about this as you drive around.
