Red Wings

The Red Wings beat Buffalo 6-3 last night, snapping a six-game winless streak.   The Wings were down 3-2 when Henrik Zetterberg tied it up. Tomas Tatar had two goals for Detroit.  Stephen Weiss, Danny DeKeyser, and Johan Franzen also scored for Detroit.  Niklas Kronwall left the game in the second period with an upper body injury and Weiss was hit in the jaw in the third and did not return to the ice. Petr Mrazek stopped 13 shots on goal. The Red Wings are off until Saturday, when they visit the Senators in Ottawa.

Narduzzi to Leave MSU

Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi is leaving the school to become the new head coach at Pittsburgh.  An official announcement is expected after the Christmas holiday.  He’s has been MSU's top defensive assistant since Coach Dantonio took over in  2007. Reports say Narduzzi will likely take several assistant coaches with him from the Spartans staff.  MSU plays Baylor in the Cotton Bowl, a week from tomorrow.

Nussmeir to Leave Michigan

Doug Nussmeier's one-year tenure at Michigan is about to be over.  Reports say Nussmeier, Brady Hoke's offensive coordinator at Michigan last season, is expected to be named Florida's new offensive coordinator.

High School Boys Basketball

Battle Creek Central beat Highland Park Renaissance Academy 82-68 in the Chuck Turner Classic.  Senior Ahmed McKinney led the Bearcats with 20 points to go along with eight rebounds.  DeMonte Thomas adding 13 points and sophomore Demetrius Craig put in 12.

South Haven 39, Lakeview 37.  Lakeview falls to 0-4.

Lions

The Lions and Packers meet at Lambeau Field in Week 17.  The winner takes the NFC North Division and could earn a bye in round one of the playoffs. The Lions haven't won at Lambeau Field since 1991, and haven't taken a division title since 1993.  The NFL has moved the game from 1 to 4pm.  Broadcast time this Sunday is 3:20 on WBCK.

Raiola Suspended

Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola will not play against the Green Bay Packers this weekend after his suspension was upheld by the NFL in an appeals hearing yesterday. Raiola was suspended one game for stomping on the leg of a Bears player during the Lions win in Chicago Sunday. Rookie Travis Swanson is expected to make his first start at center in Raiola's place in Green Bay.   The winner of Sunday's game will be division champions and earn a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Three Lions in Pro Bowl

Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and safety Glover Quin have been named to the 2015 Pro Bowl.    Johnson will be making his fifth straight Pro Bowl appearance. Suh will play in his fourth.  Quinn leads the NFL with seven interceptions and will join the NFC team for the first time in his career.  The Pro Bowl will be played in Arizona on January 25th, one week before the Super Bowl.

Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are back in action Friday night when they host the Indiana Pacers.

College Basketball

Eastern Michigan beat Coppin State 87-64 on Monday

The MSU Spartans will host Maryland next Tuesday at 5.

U of M begins Big Ten play against Illinois next Tuesday in Ann Arbor.
