Bowling Green beat Western Michigan 79-78. Tucker Haymond had 20 points for the Broncos, but missed two key free-throws in the final minute.

Central Michigan beat Miami of Ohio 69-51.  Chris Fowler had 21.

Kent State beat Eastern Michigan 73-58.

Michigan Basketball

The Michigan Wolverines (15-5, 5-2) host Rutgers (6-14, 0-7). Tip-off at the Crisler Center is 7:00 p.m.

MSU Basketball

Michigan State travels to Northwestern tomorrow night.  Hear the game starting at 8pm on WBCK.  The Spartans host Rutgers on Sunday at 4:15.

Pistons

The Pistons are home against the Philadelphia 76ers tonight. Detroit is 24-21.  Philadelphia is 7-and-39.

Boys Basketball

Bronson beat St. Philip, 67-49.

Pennfield beat Lake Odessa Lakewood 62-45, outscoring the Vikings 24-8 in the third quarter.   Steffen Kinne had 20 points and 11 rebounds for his 7th double-double of the season.

Lakeview lost to Stevensville-Lakeshore, 44-39.

Calhoun Christian 66, Jackson Prep, 59.  Alex Wilcox with 23.

Battle Creek Academy 66, Factoryville 31.  Jake Essex scored 25 and Shadrach Grentz added 23.

Girls Basketball

10th-ranked Marshall beat Parma Western 57-15.  Nikki Tucker leading the Redhawks to their 11th straight win with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Senior Bowl-Spartans

Michigan State defensive end Shilique Calhoun will not play in this weekend's Senior Bowl because of an injured wrist. Calhoun is projected to be taken in the first three rounds of the NFL draft.  MSU receiver Aaron Burbridge, offensive lineman Jack Allen and defensive end Lawrence Thomas, along with Michigan center Graham Glasgow and Western Michigan offensive lineman Willie Beavers are expected to play in the Senior Bowl on Saturday in Mobile, Alabama.

Red Wings

The Red Wings are off for a week for the NHL All-Star break.  Rookie forward Dylan Larkin is Detroit's lone representative in the All-Star Game, which will be played In Nashville Sunday.   Detroit recalled center Joakim Andersson from Grand Rapids and sent forward Eric Tangradi and defenseman Nick Jensen to the Griffins. Tangradi made his Detroit debut Monday in the team's 4-2 win over the New York Islanders, while Jensen returns to Grand Rapids without seeing game action.  The Wings enter the break with a 25-16-8 record and in second place in the Atlantic Division.

Sports Star of the Week

Our WBCK/Lassen Automotive High School Sports Stars of the Week is Athens senior Jenny Smittendorf.   Jenny is the second-year captain of the Indians has helped them to a 9-2 record on the basketball season. She is a three-sport athlete and a Big 8 Conference Academic All-Conference six times.  Off the court, Jenny is a member of the National Honor Society, Michigan Youth In Government, Youth Advisory Club, Student Council and Students Against Drugs. Jenny is also Editor-In-Chief of the school yearbook and voted by fellow classmates as Homecoming Queen last fall.

Jenny will be a finalist to win a $600 scholarship from Lassen Automotive.  At the end of the school year, we’ll have a drawing from our Sports Stars of the Week at their showroom on Columbia Avenue.   If you know of somebody, or have some pictures to share, go to wbckfm.com and send ‘em our way.
