Hundreds of Battle Creek area snowbirds have flown the coop for the winter, and many more will be leaving this week.   Many of them will be getting together in February for the 85th annual Battle Creek Day Picnic in Lakeland Florida. Since 1931, it’s been a chance for past and present Battle Creek area residents to get together for a visit, and enjoy the warm Florida sunshine.

Attendance for the event ranges from anywhere from 100 to 800.   Last year, the picnic had more than 150 attendees, an increase from the year before.

The gathering, always the third Thursday in February, will be on the 18th this year, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lakeland.  Registration starts at 10am, with a $5 fee to cover costs of the hall.   Lunch is at noon.   Bring a dish to pass and your own table service and drinks.  Coffee is provided.

There will be a short program, door prizes, a 50/50 Drawing and they’ll raffle off some baskets.
