There was a sold out crowd in attendance at Joe Louis Arena Monday night to watch the Detroit Red Wings take on the Buffalo Sabres. They were also there to wish a very special Happy Birthday to Red Wings' great Gordie Howe, who will soon celebrate his 88th birthday.

Despite suffering a nearly fatal stroke in 2014, Howe was in attendance at the Joe Louis Monday night along with members of his family. Howe doesn't speak much, but understand what people are saying, and his family says he uses body language to make up for his deficit in speech.

Fans gave Howe a standing ovation before Karen Newman took the mic and led the crowd in singing Mr. Hockey "Happy Birthday".
