Early morning rains served as nature's alarm clock for many in southwest Michigan Friday, as thunderstorms passed through the region. That's the precursor to a brief summer heat wave this weekend, according to the National Weather Service forecast for Battle Creek.

Chances for thunderstorms vary over the weekend, with potential for the hottest days of the year so far. Two successive days in excess of 90 degrees would be a first since 2013, though the National Weather Service is not calling for 90 all weekend.
