The United States Air Force Thunderbirds Jet Demonstration Squadron will again entertain crowds at the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival over the Independence Day holiday weekend.

Barb Haluszka, executive director of the event, tells WBCK the every-other-year availability of the Thunderbirds - referred to as the "sequestration hiatus" - allows the squadron to perform at other events. She said the Battle Creek event must apply before the summer is over for a potential next-engagement in two years.

The Field of Flight event "has something for everyone," Haluszka said, with hot air balloon flights, a carnival, vendors, food and other attractions. The event starts Wednesday, June 29 with a free day, followed by various events and attractions that culminate in a fireworks show (one of two during the weekend) on July 4.
