Officers responding to an apartment fire yesterday morning got more than they expected, finding a meth lab and a handgun.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to a small fire in the 3000 block of South Burdick Street around 9:30am Monday.  In a bathroom, officers found an active meth lab near the source of the fire.

The fire was extinguished with fire damage being contained to the bathroom, and the second floor of the building taking smoke damage.

After getting a warrant, officers recovered the meth lab as well as a stolen handgun.  No arrests have been made yet, but authorities have identified the residents and continue to investigate.
