The City of Battle Creek reports that local crews responded to three fires in the middle of the week.

  • On Tuesday morning, Rosler Metal Finishing on Denso Road had a fire in the back storage area, in a dumpster.  A bucket of epoxy resin was involved in the fire.  Officials say this does not cause a danger to the community. The fire was quickly extinguished by Veterans Affairs Fire Rescue 20 and BCFD Rescue 4 around 9am.  BCFD responded with 19 personnel, two administrative personnel, and a battalion chief. VA Fire responded with automatic mutual aid, with four personnel. The main challenge was ventilation of the smoke in the building.
  • On Wednesday afternoon, City Fire personnel were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm at Springview Manor.  Engine 2 was first on scene and discovered a small cooking fire already extinguished. Engine 5 arrived to provide ventilation support and lobby control. Car 3 established Springview command and monitored the interior crews. All crews cleared the scene at 4:56 p.m.
  • On Thursday morning, City crews respond to a two-story single-family dwelling at 15 Oneita Street. Residents called 911 because their stove caught on fire.  Upon initial arrival fire crews discovered light smoke coming from the front door of the home. Upon investigation firefighters found food in an oven that was cooking too long. Fire crews turned the oven off, disconnected the gas line and let the oven cool down. Crews also used positive pressure ventilation to release the trapped smoke from the home. No one was injured.
