The Ingham County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a new scam.  Here is the announcement from the Sheriff's Office:

Please be aware of a scam in the area, where the callers state they are from the Ingham County Sheriff's Office attempting to collect money for back taxes, or you will be arrested and charged with Tax Fraud.

The number on the Caller ID shows (517) 676-2431, which is the Sheriff's Office main number.

Residents should be aware that the Sheriff's Office does not make phone calls or send e-mails or faxes to collect money for warrants, taxes, or other Court costs.

Web sites and cell phone apps are available for scammers to disguise their real phone numbers, or to use numbers belonging to other parties, to pull off these types of scams.

If you receive one of these calls, please DO NOT send money, make wire transfers, or give out credit card information to the callers.
