A Kalamazoo staple is shut its doors Sunday.  In a statement on their Bacchus Wine and Spirit's Facebook page, the manager said:

Thank you for being such a great community for us to be a part of and allowing us to share with you the things you never knew existed but now can’t live without. It has been a pleasure to get to know you and I thankyou for all your support over the years.

The message hinted at an ownership change being the cause of the closure.

In a world of chain stores and big box, it always saddens me when a neighborhood institution closes.  These unique places are what set cities apart and helps build the character of a town.  They define the corners they sit upon.  Cheers to you, Bacchus.  Thanks for being a part of this wonderful city for 45 memorable (or, depending on your Bacchus purchase, not so memorable) years.
