A fire that started shortly after midnight Monday in Battle Creek is being investigated as suspicious.

The Battle Creek Fire Department says that they responded early July 31, to the 200 block of W. Manchester St, to find a boarded up home with flames coming from its second floor. Firefighters had to take a defensive stance against the blaze, which worked through the second floor and attic of the structure.

After around an hour of fighting the fire using hand-lines and a ladder truck, the blaze was put out, with around $15,000 in damage being done. No one was hurt in the fire.

Right now, the fire marshal is looking into what caused this incident, but it is being treated as suspicious.
