A gunman entered a home in the 20th block of Illinois Street in Battle Creek, Friday evening, threatening nine people, including six children.

Battle Creek Police officers arrived on the scene at 6:35 PM and witnessed the man running from the residence, holding his waist as if carrying a concealed handgun. He ignored orders to stop and continued running northbound on Illinois Street. Officers gave chase and as they closed in, the suspect threw a handgun to the side. He was taken into custody without any injuries.

An investigation revealed that the handgun was reported stolen and the 23 year-old Battle Creek man was lodged into the Calhoun County Jail on charges of Home Invasion, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and two counts of Resisting and Obstruction. Other charges are pending after further investigation.
