A home fire Saturday evening in Battle Creek left one firefighter injured.

Crews were called to the wood-frame house around 5:30pm Saturday December 17, in the 100 block of Oneita St, to find heavy fire and smoke.  Authorities didn’t know if anyone was trapped inside, so they worked to quickly put the blaze out and search for victims.

One firefighter was injured during the operation, and they were treated at Bronson Battle Creek, but no one else was hurt.

It's unclear at this time if the home was occupied at the time the fire sparked, and a press release from the Battle Creek Fire Department describes the homeowner as "unavailable". The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal.
