The United Way in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo is updating its mission, vision and goals as part of an overall effort to better meet the needs of those struggling in both communities.

This week, Chris Sargent and Matt Lynn discussed the reasoning behind the honing of the organization's focus on WBCK.

"People know the United Way as both the community fundraiser, but also...a mile wide and an inch deep," Sargent said. While the new focus doesn't deviate from the four key areas centered on education and graduation rates, economically stable households, family and infant health, as well as an economic safety net for access to basic needs.
