A 32-year-old Battle Creek man was involved in a weekend crash along I-94 in Jackson County that injured his passenger.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports that the accident occurred on westbound I-94 near Cooper Street on the east end of Jackson around 2:30am Sunday morning. The man was driving his SUV and crashed into a truck in the road, driven by an 82-year-old Vermontville man.

Authorities believe the Battle Creek man had fallen asleep at the wheel and rear-ended the truck that was stalled in the road when it ran out of gas.

Both of the drivers were not hurt in the accident. The younger man’s passenger, a 26-year-old Kalamazoo woman, was taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson for treatment. She is expected to recover.
