The Battle Creek City Commission will be meeting again on Tuesday, and they have a few items of note on their agenda.

According to the agenda, one item that will be up for a vote is a deal to finally sell the land the vacant Michigan State Police post sits on, at the corner of Columbia Ave. and LaVista Blvd. The deal as laid out in the agenda would be to sell the land to a local businessman with a neighboring property for $125,000; however, the city would have to pay for $27,000 to demolish the building, and another $36,000 to buy adjacent vacant land from the state before it can be sold.

What the buyer plans to do with the land remains to be seen. The Battle Creek police post closed down in 2011, as a part of a Michigan State Police restructuring plan; The MSP in the region has since shifted operations to the Marshall Regional Law Enforcement Center on Old US-27.

A second resolution being introduced Tuesday would change Battle Creek’s Rental Housing Ordinance; the current ordinance allows the city to deny a permit if the applicant doesn’t allow the property to be inspected, but after a federal court ruled such policy violated the US Constitution it needs to be updated.
