A Battle Creek Police Officer was hurt Wednesday morning while trying to arrest a man. Police were called out at around midnight to the area of Coldwater and Clark roads in Bedford Township, where the 31-year-old man was seen acting suspiciously and trying to get into buildings. The suspect ran off when the responding officer talked to him. The chase continued to West Michigan and Custer Drive, as other law enforcement arrived. The first officer was punched and injured before they were able to subdue the suspect with stun guns and pepper spray. The man was taken to Bronson-Battle Creek for a mental evaluation and could face charges of resisting arrest and assaulting an officer. The injured officer was taken to Bronson- Kalamazoo for treatment.
