The Battle Creek Police Department is getting ready to hold their annual Trunk or Treat event.

The BCPD and other area public safety agencies will be coming together for the sixth annual event, which takes place on Halloween; Wednesday, October 31 from 5pm to 7pm. Because the old police station building is still being demolished, the event itself and the parking for it will take place in the parking lot across W. Van Buren St. from the Battle Creek Central High School. The event is free and open to everyone.

The Departments says that "attendance has exceeded expectations every year", so they are seeking donations to help purchase candy for the participants.

If you want to make a financial donation, you can sent a check to the Battle Creek Police Department's Law Enforcement Community Fund, a fund of the Battle Creek Community Foundation. Make the checks payable to "BCCF/PDLAW" and mail them to Battle Creek Community Foundation, 32 W. Michigan Ave, Suite 1, Battle Creek, MI 49017.

You can also donate online, at the Battle Creek Community Foundation's website.

The BCPD also wants to remind citizens of various Trick-or-Treat safety tips:
