In the latest water bills the City of Battle Creek distributed, an insert was included that promoted upcoming recycling events in Calhoun County.

The problem is, a date was wrong in one of them.

The City says that the water bill insert incorrectly said that the late summer electronics and Styrofoam collection event would take place on August 26, when it is actually scheduled for August 25. The collection will be taking place for 9am to 1pm, at the Department of Public Works building on Kendall St.

However, Battle Creek is also taking this opportunity to promote this and other environmental and recycling events.

The August 25 recycling event will allow for the following items to be recycled, according to a press release:

  • Computers and computer equipment, including laptops

  • LCD and CRT monitors

  • Printers

  • Wires and cords

  • Copy and fax machines

  • Audio visual equipment

  • LCD, plasma, and tube TVs

  • Gaming consoles

  • Stereo equipment

  • Lamps

  • Small kitchen appliances and electronics

  • Other items with a cord

  • Car batteries

  • Household batteries

  • Styrofoam #6 – polystyrene, typically is used to make foam cups, plates, egg cartons, and packing material. Foam packing peanuts and construction foam cannot be accepted.

The City notes that this event is only for the recycling of residential waste, and if you bring large quantities you might face a fee.

Further detains about this and other events can be found at battlecreekmi.gov/environment.
