Battle Creek Resident Wins KCC Tuition Grant

BATTLE CREEK, Sept. 1, 2015 -- Kellogg Community College today announced that the winner of a drawing for a $250 tuition grant is John Grafton,a freshman from Battle Creek who is studying to be a minister.Grafton, 18, grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Marshall Academy in 2015. He plans to major in theology and transfer to a four-year institution after two years at KCC.

Grafton was randomly selected to receive the tuition grant from a group that included all students who registered for at least one Fall 2015 course in the month of July.

As part of an incentive to encourage early registration, all students who registered in July were automatically entered into the drawing. This followed a similar drawing that was held for all students who had registered in June; the winner of that drawing, worth $500, was Taylor Bradford of Kalamazoo.

"We're doing everything we can to encourage students to plan ahead for their education and their careers," said Nikki Jewell, director of Financial Aid at KCC. "The sooner students register for their courses, the sooner they can begin to prepare for their college experience."

Fall classes began Aug. 27 at KCC's North Avenue campus in Battle Creek as well as the College's regional centers in Albion, Coldwater and Hastings and at the Regional Manufacturing Technology Center in the Fort Custer Industrial Park in Battle Creek.
