A sword attack in Battle Creek sent a woman to the hospital and led to a man's arrest early Friday morning.

The Battle Creek Police Department says that around 2:45am Friday, emergency responders were called to the Teal Run Apartments on Skyview Ln; crews arrived to find a 35-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds, and she was taken to be treated at the hospital. Her injuries are described as serious, and she was taken for surgery.

A 13-year-old witness to the attack identified the suspect as a 35-year-old Battle Creek man; police say the witness is a child of the victim and suspect. The child said that the man broke into the apartment, and attacked the woman with a three-foot long sword. It not known why the attack happened.

The BCPD put out a suspect description to area law enforcement, and shortly afterwards a Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Deputy spotted his vehicle on King's Highway. The suspect was arrested without further incident, and he is set to face charges of assault with intent to murder and home invasion.

Authorities say that while the investigation is ongoing, their only suspect has been caught, and that there is no danger to the public.
