Rep. Dr. John Bizon (R-Battle Creek) tells WBCK he isn't certain the proposed emergency funding for Detroit Public Schools is the best option for future success in the district. Bizon said the district should seriously consider breaking up and being absorbed by neighboring, better performing districts.

"We should not be condemning our children to go to the very worst school system in America," Bizon said. "They have failed time and time again."

Bizon cites other examples, like the Inkster schools, which have been a model for disbanding under-performing districts. He believes DPS teachers could be subject to pay raises in other districts, and students would have a better district behind them.

The Michigan House of Representatives approved the nearly $49 million measure two weeks ago; the Senate followed last week.
