When the Battle Creek City Commission meets for the first time in 2018, there won’t be much to discuss; however, one application from a national dairy processor will be introduced.

According to the Commission’s Agenda for January 2, Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc. is looking to expand their facility in the Fort Custer Industrial Park in Battle Creek. The expansion would see the installation of a new bottling facility, and the creation of 16 new jobs; the company also says it will help insure the 150 jobs already at the plant.

Prairie Farms is seeking an Industrial Facilities Tax Exemption over the next 12 years in order to help facilitate the project, an exemption Battle Creek Unlimited has written Commissioners to support. According to estimates by a city assessor, the City of Battle Creek would lose about $829,000 in tax revenue over the 12 years of the abatement.

A public hearing is set to take place on January 16 to discuss this tax abatement further.
