A package of ordinances is set to be introduced to the Battle Creek City Commission at their next meeting that would regulate the zoning of medical marijuana businesses in town.

The ordinances will be introduced Tuesday, and it would allow for Growers, Processors, Transporters, Testers, and Dispensers of medical marijuana, in various zoning districts throughout Battle Creek. This package of ordinances passed the Planning Commission this week, in a 5-2 vote; however, they won’t be voted on in the City Commission until an ordinance allowing for the licensing of pot businesses is also introduced.

A Michigan law introduced last year allows for municipalities to regulate the type of marijuana business they allow, and also allows for the businesses themselves to get licensed by the state.

December 15 is the first day that the state will be accepting applications from people who want to start a medical marijuana business.
