A groundbreaking ceremony is set to take place today to commemorate the construction of the new Battle Creek Police Department Headquarters.

The City of Battle Creek says that the event takes place from 10 to 10:30am Thursday, on 34 N. Division St, right across John Patterson Way from the current BCPD HQ.

Work on this new building is expected to take about 18 months, and once it is finished it will provide the police department with more space to conduct business, and will also feature community spaces to improve police-citizen relations.

As a reminder, John Patterson Way between E. Michigan Ave. and Division St. will be completely closed during this work.
