The Battle Creek Police are on the lookout for a man who assaulted a gas station employee before robbing the store.

Around 3:30am Monday morning, the Citgo station in the 400 block of Capital Avenue NE was robbed by an unknown person, who also attacked the clerk with a claw hammer. The victim managed to get away and get a passing cab to help them.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of head wounds. Police arrived after the suspect had fled, and a K-9 search was unsuccessful.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20’s, with dark clothing and a scarf on his face.
