The Harper Creek Beavers are now just one win away from capturing a district title following their 76-59 win over the Pennfield Panthers in the first of two Class B District 35 semi-final matches Wednesday night at Marshall High School.

This was the third meeting between the Panthers and Beavers this year. The win gave Harper Creek a clean sweep of their crosstown rivals this season.  Both teams turned the ball over 12 times.  However, the Beavers out-shot the Panthers 41 to 34-percent and were 24 of 29 from the free throw line, compared to 17 of 28 attempts for the Panthers.

Harper Creek had four players scoring in double digits.  Travon Johnson put up 27-points for the Beavers, followed by Khylen Watkins with 15, James Cadena with 14 and Brandon Hutson with an even dozen.  Ryan Lowe led Pennfield’s scoring with 16-points.  Close behind Lowe were Aaron Brown with 12-points, Ethan Everett with 10-points and Jake Grimes’ nine points.

The stage is set for the district championship.  To take home the District 35 title, Harper Creek will have to get past the Marshall Redhawks, who advanced to the district final game by defeating the Parchment Panthers 65-53.
