A boil water advisory has been issued for a portion of Battle Creek Tuesday morning.

The City of Battle Creek says on their website that the following streets are under the boil water advisory until further notice:

  • Seedorff St. between Hanover St. and Congress St.

Residents affected by this advisory are asked not to use their water for things like drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, or food preparation without boiling it for at least a minute. Alternatively, you could just use bottled water.

The boil water advisory is necessary because a portion of the Battle Creek municipal water system had to be shut down to allow for improvements or repairs. When that happens, bacteria could potentially enter the system. Boiling water will kill the bacteria, as a precaution.

It's not clear how long the advisory will be in place, but warnings of this nature typically last for 24 hours but they can be extended.
