Bombers 2016 Schedule Announced

The Battle Creek Bombers are getting ready for their ninth season of play in the Northwoods League.

The new season begins on May 31st, as the summer collegiate wooden bat league stays at 16 teams set in the same North and South divisions. There are a few small changes this season, after the Alexandria (MN) Blue Anchors folded after the 2015 season. The La Crosse (WI) Loggers move to the North Division with the addition of a new team in Rockford, Illinois in the South. The new franchise name is still being determined. It's the first Northwoods League franchise to be based in Illinois.

Rockford's most recent baseball teams span back to 1993, when the Riverhawks were a part of the independent Frontier League, and two seasons in the independent American Association. They returned to the Frontier League in 2014 as the Rockford Aviators.

The Bombers will open the new schedule at home with the Madison Mallards on May 31st. They will stay at home or in Kalamazoo against the rival Growlers all the way through June 9th.

Their first trip to Rockford will take place June 14th and 15th. They will host the new squad for the first time July 10th.

The Bombers will take on the Rochester (MN) Honkers and the Mankato (MN) Moondogs in the cross-divisional match-ups this season. It's the third straight season the Bombers have played the Honkers. It's the first meeting with the Moondogs since the Northwoods League Championship in 2011, where the Bombers swept Mankato in the best-of-three series for their lone title.

The Bombers' promotional schedule is still in the works, but will sure to please after another record-setting attendance at C.O. Brown Stadium.
