The Battle Creek Bombers opened the 2015 Northwoods League season Tuesday, falling to the defending champion Lakeshore Chinooks 4-2 at C.O Brown Stadium.

After taking the lead in the fifth inning, the Bombers allowed four runs in the eighth and couldn't mount a comeback. Spencer Hemphill (Louisiana-Monroe) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, while Austin Peay teammates Dre Gleason and Cayce Bredlau, and Matt Simmons (Gardner-Webb) each had two hits in the loss.

After a solid start from Alex Hermeling (Louisiana-Monroe), going 6 1/3 scoreless innings and striking out eight, Michael Peterson (Riverside City College) allowed all four runs in an inning of relief to suffer the loss.

The Bombers wrap up their two-game series with the Chinooks this afternoon at 12:05. Nathan Witt (Michigan State) will take the mound for the Bomb Squad, while Lake Bachar (Wisconsin-Whitewater) gets the start for the Chinooks.
