The Battle Creek Bombers have hired a new manager.   Gary McClure has coached 27 years in Division One College Baseball in the dugout at Austin Peay State University.

McClure will replace current field manager Bryan Moses, who moves into a university head coaching job.

Bombers General Manager Tony Iovieno commented on the hiring of McClure saying, “We couldn’t be more excited to get someone with the credentials and coaching experience of Gary McClure. I’m positive that he will be a huge asset to our players as they seek to play professional baseball.”

McClure had 847 wins, the most in Austin Peay baseball history.  He has coached five major league players, including former Tiger Jamie Walker,  as well as George Sherrill, AJ Ellis, Shawn Kelley and Matt Reynolds.

McClure and his wife, Amy, currently reside in Clarksville, Tenn. They have been married for nearly three decades and have one son, Alex: an assistant coach at Arkansas State, who played in the Royals and Marlins farm systems.

He said, ““I know Battle Creek is a very nice city with a lot of baseball history, and I look forward to becoming a part of the community and getting to know folks there.”
