The Tigers beat Tampa Bay 5-3 in Detroit.   A walk-off two-run homer by Miguel Cabrera gave the Tigers the win.

The Tigers were the first to score, when Victor Martinez singled to center, bringing Ian Kinsler home in the 1st inning.  The Rays answered with runs in the first and third and J.D. Martinez tied it up in bottom of  the 3rd with a double to deep right.

It was a 2-2 game until the bottom of the 7th  when Ian Kinsler scored the go-ahead run on a Tampa Bay error.  But Tigers' reliever Francisco Rodriguez couldn’t hold the lead as he gave up a home run to Steven Souza, Jr.

It was a pitching duel between Justin Verlander and Alex Cobb.   Verlander went 7 innings and gave up two runs on six hits.   He struck out 6 and walked 5.  Alex Cobb matched Verlander with a solid performance for the Rays.

In the 9th, Alex Avila singled, and Cabrera hit his game-winner into the right field stands for the 5-3 victory.

Daniel Norris will start for the  tonight as the two teams face each other once again, in game two of a four game series, Friday evening at 6:45 PM on 95.3 WBCK.
