Calhoun County Commissioner Jim Haadsma recently announced his candidacy for Michigan House of Representatives in the 62nd District, representing Battle Creek.

The Democrat has served as a county commissioner since 2008, and appeared on The Richard Piet Show Thursday to discuss his motivation for a new House campaign. Haadsma would face off against Rep. Dr. John Bizon, should he decide to run again. Bizon has not yet publicly declared an interest in re-election.

Haadsma also discussed current events, like the Flint water crisis, Michigan's emergency manager law and the Kalamazoo shooting. Hear his comments by clicking the player below.
