The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning about a woman attempting to defraud businesses in the area.

On Sunday afternoon, a business in the 300 block of N. 20th St. in Springfield says that a woman entered the store and gave merchandise to the clerk at the register, saying that the business owner had purchased these items from her. She then requested payment be made from the business’ cash register. The woman also offered to produce a receipt to verify the transaction.

When the clerk refused, the alleged scammer left in a dark green 4 door sedan driven by an unknown male.

The Sheriff’s Office says that they are aware of a similar complaint with a similar suspect in a neighboring jurisdiction, so authorities recommend business owners educate their employees about this scam. The female suspect is described as a white woman in her late 40s to early 50s, standing around 5 foot 9 inches tall with a medium build. She has blonde hair, and walks “with a noticeable limp”.

If you have any information, the CCSO asks you contact them or call Silent Observer.
