Calhoun County Sheriff K-9 Tuco and his partner Deputy Picketts received their K-9 Buddy Bag from the K-9 Defender Fund gifted by the Collin Rose Memorial Foundation. The Buddy Bag is a large K-9 first aid kit full of all the first aid essentials vital to a K-9's life and safety. It includes a K-9 oxygen mask and Narcan for K-9's. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office said they are very thankful for the gift.

Collin Rose Memorial Foundation donated the Buddy Bag in memory of St. Clair Shores Police Department K-9 Axe.

K-9 Axe of St. Clair Shores Police Department

K-9 Axe was killed in the line of duty on November 4, 2018. St. Clair Shores police responded to call that a man with two weapons was lingering outside of a banquet hall that was hosting a party with about 70 people. Upon officer arrival, a male matching the description was observed standing outside the banquet hall. The male ignored several demands from officers and attempted to flee the scene on foot. The department's K-9 "Axe" was deployed and was shot by the suspect with a handgun. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect, who was then taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Axe was taken to a local animal hospital where he was also pronounced dead.

The Collin Rose Memorial Foundation was formed in remembrance of Kalamazoo County native and Wayne State University Sgt. Collin Rose. The foundation is a non-profit that sponsors protective equipment for police dogs, created a scholarship in Rose's name and supports people who've lost companions in the line of duty.
