The Calhoun County Sheriff’s department is warning the public about another recent phone scam. According to a department release, the scam involves a subject identifying themselves as a Calhoun County Deputy or Detective. The callers then claim that there is a legal issue that can only be resolved if the subjects obtain a “Green Dot” debit card and give information off the back of the card. The scam reportedly started within the past few days and is swindling residents out of money. The Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that they will never call and demand money and residents should guard their personal information. If anyone receives such a call they should hang up the phone immediately.
