Battle Creek Mayor Dave Walters has returned from a trip to China, a trip which was the latest step towards a business and educational relationship with China and South Korea.

Walters, along with Assistant City Manager Ted Dearing joined a Korean delegation visiting Rushan City, Shangdong, China in early June to discuss bringing over around 1,000 Chinese and Korean students to Battle Creek.

Walters tells WBCK that “we’re looking as early as next fall…to have the South Korean Delegation and some of their students” in the Battle Creek area to study at Kellogg Community College and Western Michigan University.

There is the potential for future housing developments in the city, to support the visiting students, as well as the possibility some of the students may choose to stay in the region.
