The Portage City Council is now moving forward, with outfitting Portage Public Safety Officers with body cameras.

At their meeting Tuesday, the purchase of 50 body cameras and the software and storage equipment to run them was approved, at a cost of $226,366.

The decision to equip officers with the cameras comes after a months-long trial program, the results of which were positive.  Body camera technology is used to record the actions of those involved police activity, and to provide better accountability for all parties.
