A Coldwater man is set to be arraigned after he allegedly molested a young girl for an extended period.

MLive says that the investigation began after a complaint was received regarding the suspect’s conduct on a cell phone messaging app; a search warrant was executed to the 23-year-old’s residence on Wednesday, and the suspect allegedly confessed to molesting an elementary school aged girl and taking sexual photos of her over several months, and then sharing the photos online.

The man was arrested on charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct and manufacturing child sexually abusive material. A charge of first degree CSC can carry up to life in prison after a guilty verdict.

The victim has been taken by Branch County Department of Human Services-Child Protective Services, and placed into what is described as a safe environment.

The investigation was carried out by the Michigan State Police Marshall Post -Coldwater Detachment, with help from Homeland Security Investigations, the Coldwater Police, and the MSP Computer Crimes Unit.
