Battle Creek Police responded to a complaint, late Saturday evening. A female purchasing a shake at Big Boy used a $100 bill, taking the change but leaving the shake.

While responding to the call, officers observed a female matching the description leaving the Speedway gas station. Officers made contact and were able to identify a total of four businesses in the area where the 18 year-old female passed fake bills.

After further investigation a male age 31 was identified as being involved in the scam. Both were transported to the Calhoun County jail where they are facing charges related to the counterfeit bills.

Counterfeit money has also appeared in Galesburg. According to Police Chief Jeff Heppler, counterfeit $100 dollar bills were used at a Shell Gas Station and McDonald’s, both located at exit 85 on I-94.

It is unknown if the two cases are related.
