Ernesto Reyes, the Cuban native from Florida who was announced recently as Battle Creek's newest assistant city manager, arrived in Michigan when the snow was flying. That's quite a contrast from Pompano Beach, Florida, where he'd previously held various municipal positions.

But he takes it in stride.

"Once you're here, you make the best of it," Reyes said on Monday's Richard Piet Show. "The weather's not as bad as you think it is!"

According to his LinkedIn profile, Reyes spent the last year and a half as assistant city manager for budget and planning in Pompano Beach. City Manager Rebecca Fleury tells WBCK someone with a budget background is just what modern cities need.

Reyes was born in Cuba, and in addition to discussing his background, the job here in Battle Creek (his official title is assistant city manager for operations), he also talked about renewed relations between the U.S. and Cuba.
