Click the player above to hear this week's Miles for Memories Moment, in which volunteer Linda Grap discusses the importance of rest and breaks for family members who are caregivers for their loved ones who have dementia.

Linda expands on these points:

>   Family Caregivers can not do it alone -- take advantage of resources
>   Support Groups are helpful for getting and giving information and support from people who are sharing the same journey as you are. Senior Health Partners offers free support groups for family caregivers.
>   Every family caregiver needs a break from the responsibility of caregiving. CentraCare has received grant funding to provide Free respite care in their day center on Saturdays and some weekday evenings from now through September. Transportation is provided and a meal for your family member.
> Planning is key. There are financial, legal and medical decisions for each stage of the journey. It is important to get documents in place as early as possible.
> Talking about dementia and  healthcare decisions with a family member can be uncomfortable but the more we talk, the easier it becomes and we will be more likely to get the care we would choose.
