School age children in Eaton and Barry Counties can now get their hearing and vision checked for free this summer.

The Barry-Eaton District Health Department says that two clinics will be held, one in Barry County on August 17, and the other in Eaton County on August 18. The clinics will take place at BEDHD offices.

BEDHD says in a release Tuesday that all children must receive a vision and hearing screening before they enter kindergarten, and that screening for these problems can help a child succeed, because an undiagnosed problem can make learning harder. They say that around 10,000 children in Michigan enter school each year, without having adequate vision.

The clinics require an appointment, so BEDHD says;

to schedule an appointment in Barry County, please call (269) 798-4133. To schedule an appointment in Eaton County, please call (517) 541-2630. Both clinics will be open from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
