An informational session is planned for Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Harper Creek High School auditorium (12677 Beadle Lake Road) at 6 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring their questions about a proposed road tax to be decided by voters in the August 2 primary.

Emmett Township Supervisor Tim Hill tells WBCK the proposal, if passed, would cost the average homeowner about $151 per year for a home with a value of about $112,000, the average home value in the township. Calhoun County would match 30 percent of the expediture, putting $11.2 million of the burden on the township and $4.8 million on the county.

Hill said the township decided to allow the voters to make the decision directly, as opposed to a special assessment - which Bedford Township homeowners saw happen - or some other alternative.

Both Hill and Bolt said many roads in Emmett Township have not been upgraded since they were built 40 years ago.

Hear The Richard Piet Show weekday mornings from 5:30-9 on WBCK.
