An investigation will continue today to try and determine the cause of a fire that left one person dead in Battle Creek.

The fire happened in a house on First Street at around 5am yesterday.

87-year-old Bernice Taylor was unable to escape the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Taylor’s 66-year-old disabled son was rescued from the second floor of the house by firefighters and taken to the hospital.

The victim’s daughter and her boyfriend managed to escape without injury.

Investigators say they have traced the origin of the fire to one of the bedrooms.

The house is being considered a total loss.
