A two-semi crash in Comstock Township shut down a section of M-96 for several hours Monday.

The incident happened around 2:30pm Monday, on East Michigan Avenue west of 33rd Avenue.

Investigation shows that one semi-truck carrying plastics collided with a gravel truck, causing one truck to tip over and both vehicle’s diesel tanks to catch fire.  It’s not known at this time what caused the collision to occur.

Bystanders were able to extricate the truck drivers from their vehicles before they were completely engulfed in flames, with injuries described as minor.

The roadway was shut down until Monday evening, while crews worked to remove the burned out semis.
