Firefighters in Battle Creek say they got a fire put out quickly without any injuries yesterday, but they say it could have been worse, as there weren't any working smoke detectors in the home.  The fire was reported on Kellogg Street just before 7:30 in the morning.  Investigators say the residents woke up when they smelled the smoke and escaped.  The fire was contained to the basement and damage is estimated at $25-hundred dollars.

The Battle Creek Fire Department says that people in need can contact them for smoke detector installation at 966-3519.
